| Abstract Scope |
The growing demand for sustainable materials has increased the use of natural fibers as reinforcements in polymer composites due to their low cost and reduced environmental impact compared with synthetic fibers. This study evaluated the influence of fiber diameter on the mechanical properties of natural mallow fibers. Dimensional characterization was performed by determining the diameter distribution, density, and relative frequency of each diameter interval. Mechanical properties were obtained through uniaxial tensile tests following ASTM C1557. The fibers exhibited an average tensile strength of 273.2 MPa and an average Young’s modulus of 24.80 GPa. The results also demonstrated that mallow fibers present competitive mechanical performance compared with other lignocellulosic fibers. In addition, fiber diameter significantly influenced the tensile behavior, indicating that dimensional variations should be considered when designing mallow fiber-reinforced polymer composites, as they directly affect the mechanical performance of the final material. |
