| Abstract Scope |
The grain refinement efficiency of standard 5Ti-0.2B grain refiners from two producers was compared with the high efficiency Optifine 5Ti-1B grain refiner and a newly developed Optifine 5/0.2 grain refiner. Grain refinement tests were performed in an AA1070 alloy. The tests show that the high efficiency Optifine grain refiners can be added at a 40 to 90 % lower addition rate. This will have a positive effect on the quality of the final product. Depending on the grain refinement solution chosen and the current market prices on grain refiners, savings ranging from 30-80 % are possible. |
