| Abstract Scope |
Dynamic transformation, the phase transformation during high-temperature deformation, has attracted attentions as a novel microstructure control process in metals. It sometimes occurs even if phase equilibrium has been reached. Recent studies proposed that such unexpected dynamic transformation can be understood in terms of elastic strain energy stored in phases during high-temperature deformation. We think that this understanding might be explored for microstructure control of medium Mn steels with pearlitic microstructures composed of harder cementite phase and softer ferrite phase. In this study, we conducted isothermal hot compression at various temperatures on medium Mn steels with pearlitic microstructure and investigated microstructural changes. Microstructural changes were confirmed, including changes in the fraction and morphologies in cementite as well as the formation of retained austenite. Detailed analysis including mechanical properties of the hot-deformed specimens will be discussed in the presentation. |
