Abstract Scope |
In order to support the development of qualification protocols for families of flight critical parts, research is needed to identify and assess qualification challenges and determine pathways to overcome them. Understanding the relationship between each of the many processes in the metal AM value chain and the resulting fracture and fatigue properties is essential. This presentation will give an overview of two projects to address this. The first is the development of an Additive Manufacturing Process Specification (AMPS) for laser powder bed fusion of AlSi10Mg. The AMPS will cover a powder specification, optimized deposition parameters, and post-process heat treatment. The second project is an effects of defects study focused on lack of fusion defects and powder contamination for AlSi10Mg. The presentation will cover research results to date as well as approaches to transition technology to airworthiness authorities and aerospace manufacturers. |
