| Abstract Scope |
A key feature of complex oxides, oxides with more than one cation, is that they can be easily disordered. Indeed, a common response of these materials to irradiation is the introduction of chemical disorder. Over the last several years, we have examined, both using computational modeling and experimental techniques, how that chemical disorder impacts atomic transport mechanisms as this further dictates the evolution of the material under irradiation. I will present our most interesting findings from our research, highlighting for example how the impact of disorder on transport depends on the crystal structure of the oxide and how even the most elementary reactions between radiation-induced defects can generate chemical disorder in these materials. Together our results shed new light on the interplay between disorder and transport and highlight the fascinating properties of these materials. |
