Neutron Total Scattering and Its Application in Studying Energy Storage and Conversion Materials |

| Abstract Scope |
Neutron total scattering contains both the time-average and instantaneous structure information. Thus, it has been broadly used to study the structure of disordered materials. In recent years, the ever-fast development of advanced spallation neutron sources and instrumentations allowed the collection of high-quality neutron total scattering data to much higher momentum transfer using much less samples. This opens a new route for comprehensive structure characterization of disordered crystalline materials and nanomaterials, which are important candidates for energy storage/conversion applications. In this talk, I will present some of our recent work on neutron Bragg and total scattering study of battery and catalytic materials. Particularly, we will talk about how to use these detailed structural insights to guide the design and targeted synthesis of new functioning materials. I will also talk about our recent efforts on developing high throughput neutron diffraction/total scattering sample environments for battery studies. |
