Abstract Scope |
Stereolithography (SLA) additive manufacturing (AM) uses a laser system with galvanometric mirrors and lenses to selectively polymerize raw materials. Fine details require small beam sizes for high spatial resolution, however large parts require prohibitively long processing times or larger beam sizes. A pair of acousto-optic deflectors (AODs) may be used to rapidly trace the beam perpendicular to the galvo scan, thereby enabling dynamic beam shaping.
Prior simulation of galvo and AOD SLA system was developed, and the effects of individual processing parameters were examined. In this work, a prototype system using two AODs and galvo system is developed and used to validate the simulation results. The individual effects of AOD crosshatch frequency, galvo speed, laser power, and AOD crosshatch range are examined and compared to the results from simulations. Finally, processing parameters are tuned to vary the hatch spacing between adjacent AOD scans to experimentally determine ideal hatch spacing. |
