| Abstract Scope |
Metallic additive manufacturing (AM) using laser powder bed fusion (LBPF) has seen considerable growth in the last decade. However, challenges in the qualification of AM specific materials has limited the potential of this manufacturing technique, preventing the creation of advanced serially manufactured critical components. Incomplete standards, lack of relevant specifications, and challenges in generating public material data sets contribute to difficulty in approving materials for metal AM. In this work, we highlight our approach to overcoming this challenge and our lessons learned in generating material specifications and statistical datasets for the qualified use of 6061-RAM2 and 7050-RAM2 aluminum alloys. |
