Abstract Scope |
GKN Aerospace has developed a laser metal deposition with wire (LMD-w) DED process that is omnidirectional and utilizes a suite of adaptive real time closed loop controls. The process was showcased by depositing an 8 foot long 1.5 foot wide titanium aerostructure demonstrator with Northrop Grumman. Furthermore, GKN has commissioned Cell 3, an additive manufacturing cell capable of producing aerostructures up to 18 feet long and 7 feet wide. The process is capable of producing a wide variety of features without redeveloping parameters. GKN is progressing through manufacturing qualification framework for production of flyaway with the LMD-w process. GKN is presenting on its large scale additive manufacturing capabilities and Allowables program. |
