Abstract Scope |
Battery performance, capacity, and lifetime are greatly influenced by the joining technologies. Cells, modules, and packs encounter specific individual challenges while achieving multilayer foils for electrical interconnectors. With the demands of current and future electrical vehicle capabilities and efficiencies, novel and advanced dissimilar material joining processes have been sought to achieve such interconnectors for, in general, the Al and Cu pair. Since melt-based joining processes are highly prone to generate intermetallic compounds, melt-less or friction-based joining processes have become more suitable for such applications. This review article is focused on presenting the latest advancements in friction-based dissimilar material joining processes viable for electrical vehicle batteries. It further identifies major challenges in achieving re-joining capabilities intended to enable circular economy aspects for future sustainability. |
