Chemical short-range order (CSRO) and grain boundaries (GBs) both influence irradiation-induced defect evolution in concentrated alloys, but their interactions remain insufficiently understood. Here, we investigate how CSRO affects defect accumulation near grain boundaries with different sink strengths in NiCoCr. Near a relatively weak sink, represented by a Σ3 GB, CSRO suppresses defect-cluster growth by slowing interstitial diffusion and enhancing vacancy–interstitial recombination. Near a stronger Σ5 GB, CSRO and the grain boundary compete for interstitial accumulation, while their combined effects promote recombination and suppress the growth of large stacking-fault tetrahedra. These results demonstrate that the interaction between CSRO and grain boundaries can be either competitive or cooperative, depending on the sink strength of the boundary and the type of defect. The findings provide mechanistic insight into the coupled roles of local chemical order and grain-boundary character in irradiation-induced defect evolution.
