| Abstract Scope |
In 2015, the Dictionary Indexing (DI) technique was introduced as an alternative to the commercially available Hough Indexing (HI) approach for electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) patterns, in particular to deal with the problem of low quality patterns for which the HI technique was not suitable. Then, in 2019, Spherical Indexing (SI) was introduced by several research groups as a faster alternative to DI. Both approaches use full pattern matching rather than feature (i.e., Kikuchi band) extraction, which results in a higher robustness with respect to pattern noise. In this presentation, we will review several applications of DI and SI, among others the incorporation of DI into the OpenXY project as well as in commercial packages. We will also discuss more recent advances, including master pattern prediction using neural networks, high angular resolution orientation similarity maps, and incorporation of principal component analysis in dictionary indexing. |
