| Abstract Scope |
Ceramic particles have emerged as promising reinforcements for enhancing the ballistic performance of polymer composites through improved energy dissipation during high-velocity impact. This study investigates the effect of bismuth oxide (Bi₂O₃) and tungsten oxide (WO₃) particles on the ballistic behavior of hybrid flax/aramid composites. To isolate the influence of the ceramic reinforcements, laminates are manufactured under identical processing conditions using either vacuum-assisted lamination or compression molding while maintaining a fixed projectile strike-face orientation. Ballistic performance is evaluated using 9 mm full metal jacket (FMJ) projectiles under complete perforation conditions. Residual velocity (Vres), absorbed energy (ΔE), specific energy absorption (SEA), and momentum variation (Δp) are analyzed, and statistical significance is assessed through one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test. The study aims to determine whether ceramic particles significantly improve ballistic performance and to identify the most effective reinforcement strategy for lightweight hybrid armor composites. |
