Abstract Scope Additive manufacturing of Inconel 718 thin-wall sections via laser powder bed fusion is used in the refrigeration and electronics industries to produce radiators and filters. The efficiency of thin-walled sections is determined by process parameters. Hence, this study focuses on optimizing the laser powder bed fusion process parameters to produce thin-walled sections from Inconel 718 alloy. Thin wall sections of various thicknesses (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 mm) were manufactured, and their microstructures were examined. All thin-wall sections are denser, demonstrating superior building quality across a variety of wall thicknesses. Microstructural examination demonstrated that the beads were uniformly distributed and had no pores. No substantial change in hardness was noticed between thin-wall sections. Overall, the work demonstrates the capability of optimised laser powder bed fusion parameters to produce thin-walled sections with high density, constant hardness, and refined microstructures.
