| Abstract Scope |
A UniAlloy platform was developed from 100% recycled Twitch scrap as a potential replacement for conventional secondary high pressure die casting (HPDC) alloys. The UniAlloy alloy concept targets balance between mechanical performance, thermal conductivity, and corrosion resistance while maintaining sufficient castability for automotive and thermal-management applications. HPDC trials using a meander die evaluated flowability and process robustness. Tensile properties were determined from HPDC dogbone specimens, while electrical and thermal conductivity and corrosion tests were used to assess the overall performance. Industrial applicability was evaluated through foundry-scale trials in which automotive components conventionally produced from EN AC-46000, EN AC-47100, and EN AC-44300 alloys were successfully cast using UniAlloy under representative production conditions. The results demonstrate the potential of a fully recycled Twitch-based alloy platform to replace multiple legacy secondary HPDC grades while improving functional performance and supporting alloy and supply-chain simplification in automotive foundries. |
