| Abstract Scope |
Soft magnetic composites (SMCs) require electrically resistive interparticle boundaries to suppress frequency-dependent losses while preserving magnetic induction and permeability. This work explores ferrite-based interface engineering in iron SMCs using an oxalate precursor deposited on water-atomized iron powder and transformed in situ during post-compaction heat treatment. Structural, chemical, electrical, and magnetic characterization are used to evaluate coating phase evolution, resistivity, DC magnetic response, complex permeability, and core-loss behavior. Initial results show that the precursor can survive compaction and convert into a spinel boundary phase, while annealing reduces coercivity and improves permeability through stress relief and enhanced domain-wall mobility. |
