Abstract Scope |
Digit tip regeneration is a complex and highly coordinated process which has been observed in humans, non-human primates, and rodents. Understanding the process is essential for informing strategies to enhance or induce regenerative responses in non-regenerating tissues. Our study integrates computational and experimental methods to identify the role of mechanical stimuli in digit regeneration. Computational models reconstructed from in vivo micro-computed tomography scans enable longitudinal tracking of stress distributions across different stages of regeneration. In parallel, experimental characterization reveals progressive changes in bone microstructure during regeneration. This study aims to elucidate the biomechanical environment that supports successful digit regeneration and to identify critical mechanical and structural signatures associated with digit tip regenerative capacity. |
