Abstract Scope |
The strength-ductility trade-off in body-centered cubic TiZrNb-O complex concentrated alloys (CCAs) is addressed by activating Frank-Read sources through oxygen clusters (1-3 nm) in the as-cast state. During prolonged exposure at intermediate temperatures, however, oxygen clusters transform into brittle and shearable phases such as omega, HCP, or Laves, leading to embrittlement, inhibiting subsequent thermomechanical treatments. Here, we designed TiZrNb-O-X (X: Al, Mo, etc.) CCAs exhibiting improved ductility and strain hardening after aging at 300 °C for 48 hours, and capable of withstanding slow furnace cooling following post-recrystallization. The size, distribution, and composition of nanoscale features are analyzed using Atom Probe Tomography (APT) and TEM-based techniques. The microstructural deformation behavior is studied using Electron Channeling Contrast Imaging (ECCI) at different strain levels. This research offers insights into nanoscale control in refractory CCAs, enabling the design of more resilient materials with optimized mechanical properties for demanding environments. |
