| Abstract Scope |
Slags are solid waste by-products of both primary and secondary lead and copper smelting processes. These slags contain hazards including arsenic, antimony, lead, tin, copper, cadmium, barium, and zinc, and must be landfilled or sequestered as hazardous waste. Alkaline and other electrochemical processes will be examined as a potential method for removing heavy metals from hazardous solid waste. The remediation of these slags can become an intermediate step in another project that ferrosilicate-containing slags to an alkali-activated geopolymer cement. |
