| Abstract Scope |
Fronius CMT Additive-an advanced wire-arc directed energy deposition system, utilizing the proprietary Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) process enhanced by the CMT Additive Pro characteristic exclusively for the i-Wave Multi-process PRO platform. Rooted in patented reversible wire electrode motion (50–170 Hz frequency), CMT delivers controlled short-circuit droplet detachment with prolonged short-circuit duration, yielding ultralow heat input (up to 33% below conventional dip transfer), near-spatter-free material transfer, and superior arc stability. These features, complemented by real-time CTWD monitoring (optimized for low-conductivity alloys like steels), enable reproducible multilayer geometries, elevated deposition rates, and superior metallurgical integrity. Interoperable with standard industrial robots, it facilitates efficient, low-waste production of complex prototypes, repairs, and low-volume components across aerospace, automotive, energy, and tooling sectors. Experiments with various alloys proves uniqueness of the process. |
