Abstract Scope This study investigates the effect of Al addition in AlₓCrFeMnNi (x = 0, 0.3, 0.8) on the irradiation response of the alloy system. The three alloys were processed by Spark Plasma Sintering followed by heat treatment (120 hours at 1100°C). The microstructure was characterized through XRD and TEM before and after HT. Overall, Al addition promoted FCC-to-BCC phase transformation. The as-processed alloys exhibited multiple phases, while the HT stabilized single-phase solid solutions with uniformly distributed coherent/semi-coherent precipitates. The as-processed alloys and their heat treated versions were subjected to 1MeV Kr irradiation in-situ in a TEM (at the IVEM, a NSUF facility) up to 10 dpa at room temperature and 300°C. The microstructure evolution under irradiation was followed in situ in the TEM during the irradiation and complemented by ex-situ EDS mapping and further HRTEM analysis. The strong effect of Al content observed in terms of the irradiation response is discussed.
