Donor doping modifies the electronic state and defect structure of SrTiO₃, yet its influence on room-temperature plastic deformation remains unclear. This study investigates the effect of Nb doping on the plastic deformation behavior of SrTiO₃ single crystals by uniaxial compression. Highly Nb-doped crystals exhibited pronounced serrated plastic flow, whereas undoped and lightly doped crystals showed smooth deformation. Surface observations indicated deformation dominated by a single primary slip system, and UHVEM revealed localized clusters of long, straight edge dislocations associated with this slip system. These findings show that increasing Nb concentration changes the deformation mode from homogeneous to localized intermittent plasticity, providing insight into the role of donor-induced electronic and defect structures in the mechanical behavior of oxide crystals. |
