| Abstract Scope |
The valorization of lignocellulosic residues as functional biomaterials has gained increasing attention in the development of sustainable technologies and the reduction of carbon footprint. In this context, this study investigates the use of coffee husk–derived biochar as a catalytic support for hydrogen production via formic acid dehydrogenation, a promising liquid hydrogen carrier. The biochar was obtained through controlled pyrolysis, yielding a material with a developed surface area, porous structure, and abundant functional groups. Palladium nanoparticles were deposited onto the support, promoting enhanced dispersion and strong metal–support interactions, while hydrogen production was evaluated via volumetric monitoring in a closed system. The results demonstrate significant catalytic activity, with a turnover frequency (TOF) of 2532 h⁻¹ and an activation energy of ~61,94 kJ·mol⁻¹. These findings highlight the potential of biochar as a sustainable biomaterial for application in clean energy conversion systems. |
