| Abstract Scope |
If we are honest, we did not always engage with our instructors or feel enticed to explore subjects we liked beyond submitting the required artifacts. So, why are we surprised that students and the public respond us faculty in the same way. In this talk, I am going to talk about how to leverage our own experiences as students to help encourage curiosity about materials science. As a kindergartener, I already was draw to Spiderman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Hulk cartoons. I then discovered that many superheroes are engineers or scientists. I could not put comic books down. Today, I incorporate the science of superheroes into my undergraduate courses. I found that these unexpected examples capture student attention and allow them to engage quickly with technological innovations and materials design. |
