| Abstract Scope |
While multiple alloying elements including Al, Fe, Re, and Ru can produce BCC+B2 microstructures in refractory alloys, Ru appears to be the most promising element from a phase stability standpoint. This study is focused on a binary 80Zr-20Ru (at.%) alloy which is a near eutectic composition. The microstructure consists of lamellar BCC and B2 phases in the as-cast condition and blocky (coarsened) B2 precipitates in a BCC matrix in the annealed condition. The room temperature deformation behavior of this alloy is examined using electron microscopy techniques. Based on the results, new alloys were designed to optimize the mechanical performance. These experimental results show a promising path to design high temperature alloys. |
