| Abstract Scope |
Lightweight protective systems combining ballistic resistance and radiological shielding are essential for military personnel, first responders, and professionals operating in CBRN scenarios. This work evaluates multilayer hybrid composites based on a high-density polyethylene matrix reinforced with flax fabric, aramid layers, and aluminum for potential use in combat helmets. Three stacking configurations, named G1, G2, and G3, were modeled by radiological simulation to assess the influence of layer arrangement on photon attenuation. Simulations considered 662 keV gamma radiation, representative of Cs-137, and determined the transmission factor, linear attenuation coefficient, and absorption/dispersion percentage. Transmission factors ranged from 89.83% to 90.05%, while attenuation coefficients varied from 0.0670 to 0.0685 cm⁻¹. G1 showed the highest attenuation coefficient and absorption/dispersion percentage, indicating slightly better shielding performance. These results show that HDPE/flax/aramid/aluminum composites are promising multifunctional protective materials. |
