Abstract Scope |
Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) is a framework set by the University College London to assess and improve the sustainability and efficiency of laboratories. The scope of this presentation is to briefly describe the aforementioned framework followed by its implementation in the Materials and Resources research group labs at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. The latter will encompass understanding the various criteria defined by the framework, followed by determining through dialogue among group members if a criterion is met (if not, brainstorming and implementing actions to ensure it is fulfilled). Approaches to quantifying a few categories of resource consumption (like water) through the calculators provided by the framework and auditing by external personnel will be stated. The presentation will also highlight the pre- and post-LEAF implementation sentiments and modifications in the group. Through knowledge exchange and collaborative engagement, we endeavor to advocate a more sustainable future for university laboratories. |
