| Abstract Scope |
Neutron irradiation testing remains one of the most powerful tools for understanding how materials evolve under extreme environments. This talk provides an end-to-end overview of the irradiation testing workflow, from experimental design to post-irradiation examination. We will discuss neutron spectra, neutron flux benchmarking, irradiation capsule and instrumentation design, and thermal management. We will then dive into a general overview of neutron radiation damage, common testing performed on irradiation testing, and some common microstructural features which affect properties post irradiation.
This talk is intended for both experts and amateurs in the field of nuclear materials design, development, and deployment. We will aim to empower everyone to understand the process of designing their own irradiation experiments catered to specific conditions for their own applications. |
