Abstract Scope |
Twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) in metastable BCC phases significantly enhances the mechanical properties of Ti and Zr alloys. During deformation, mechanical twinning shortens the dislocation mean free path within the alloy, resulting in an increased strain hardening rate and stabilized plastic flow. Recent years have seen a surge in research on TWIP BCC alloys following the discoveries of TRIP/TWIP mechanisms in beta titanium. This presentation will discuss our latest advancements in the strengthening of TWIP Ti and the first exploration into the TWIP Zr system. Comparisons of microstructures and deformation mechanisms across these two metastable beta systems will be highlighted. |
