| Abstract Scope |
Advanced materials and metallic feedstock for additive manufacturing (AM) are essential to fulfill next-generation performance criteria and broaden the spectrum of metallic feedstock for metal AM, which is now limited. This metallic feedstock limitation is the primary impediment to realizing the full potential of AM. Herein, the Cu-Zr system was further modified using other metallic elements to address the processing challenge and enhance its performance. Notably, these alloy modifications enabled the development of a novel metallic feedstock with enhanced laser absorption relative to pure copper, while the powder rheology and morphology conform to acceptable standards for powder bed fusion technology. Additionally, comprehensive microstructural characterization was conducted to establish the material–structure–property nexus concerning variations in particle size and composition. Overall, such insights are indispensable for the rational design of bespoke microstructures matched to specific performance requirements, as well as the enhancement of material properties through subsequent heat treatment. |
