Abstract Scope |
This work expands upon research using surrogate formulations to mimic 18th century European Porcelain compositions. Many of these compositions fall outside of the compositional range typical of ancient Chinese and modern porcelains. The high flux and low alumina content results in atypical firing behavior, specifically, bloating. Firing trials on the surrogates further explore this behavior and a comparison of microstructure between historical specimen and surrogate sample reveals potential clues about the firing conditions of historical European porcelains. |
