| Abstract Scope |
Here we present on the development of new steel alloys for hot stamping. A sustainable alloy design approach that leverages existing elements in the steel scrap stream was employed to achieve oxidation resistance at extreme temperatures relevant to hot stamping (900-1000°C), enabling these new steels to exhibit minimal oxidation metal loss and be hot stamped in the uncoated condition, all while achieving this oxidation resistance with relatively low alloy content and cost. In addition, achieving enhanced corrosion resistance of the new alloys was also a design criteria, enabling reduced part thickness for weight savings. The alloy design approach as well as the results of oxidation and corrosion testing will be discussed. |
