| Abstract Scope |
Corrosion fatigue performance in molten salt environments is important for materials used in high temperature aerothermal components at marine sites and for novel energy generation such as thermal, solar, and next generation nuclear power systems. Characterization of materials under these operative conditions is critical for understanding their ability to resist corrosion damage. The work presented will include the design considerations of a modular high-temperature flexural fatigue loading configuration for characterizing corrosion mechanisms of alloys and composites in molten salt. The modular design grants flexibility for testing in different environments, including air, inert gas, and exposed to radiation. The molten salt fatigue corrosion behavior will be investigated for a stainless steel 316H (SS316H) in a molten NaCl-MgCl2 salt. It also allows for both uniaxial and biaxial loading conditions. |
