Abstract Scope |
Twinning is a dominant deformation mode in Mg and its alloys. Due to its 3D nature, the knowledge regarding twin propagation in three directions (lateral, forward, normal) is important for understanding the anisotropy of twin evolution. The analysis on deformation twins can be achieved by a 2D-EBSD characterization. Direct measurements on 2D-EBSD images provide the information of twin geometric features, however, those are performed on a projected twin shape and not in connection with specific crystallographic orientations. In this study, we are developing an approach to obtain the geometric quantities of twins from specific crystallographic directions based on EBSD characterization, as the thickness, length and width of twins is respectively defined as along the twin plane normal direction, twin shear direction, and lateral direction. Statistical analysis of twin dimensions is performed for several different Mg-alloys. The correlation among geometric quantities of twins and the alloying effects will be discussed. |
