| Abstract Scope |
Plastering mortars are widely used in construction, and their performance is strongly influenced by fine aggregate characteristics and mix design methods. This study evaluated the effects of modifying sand particle size distribution and adopting mas and volume-based mix-design methods on plastering mortar properties. Sand was separated into two fractions by sieving: (i) material passing the No. 8 sieve and retained on the No. 30 and 50 sieves, and (ii) material passing the No. 8 sieve. Four mortar mixtures were produced using CPII-E-32 Portland cement, hydrated lime, sand, and water. Fresh-state properties (bulk density, air content, and water retention) and hardened-state properties (flexural and compressive strength, tensile bond strength, and capillary water absorption) were assessed. The results showed that both sand grading modification and mix design method significantly influenced mortar performance. Mass-proportioned mortars exhibited greater consistency, while the combination of modified sand grading and mass-based proportioning achieved the best overall performance. |
