This study investigates the dimensional fidelity and compressive behavior of 17-4 PH stainless steel triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices fabricated by fused filament fabrication (FFF). Gyroid and Schwarz P lattice geometries with porosities ranging from 50% to 70% were manufactured, sintered, and evaluated through compression testing and digital image correlation (DIC). The lattices maintained good structural integrity after sintering, exhibiting an average linear shrinkage of approximately 19%. Compression testing revealed predominantly bend-dominated deformation behavior, with yield strengths ranging from 130 MPa to 12 MPa as porosity increased. DIC measurements performed at 10–40% compressive strain captured progressive deformation and strain localization within the central regions of the lattices. Computational finite element models are currently being developed to reproduce the experimentally observed deformation modes. Overall, these results demonstrate the viability of FFF-based metal AM for producing mechanically efficient 17-4 PH TPMS lattices. |
