Abstract Scope |
The growing demand for sustainable materials has encouraged the use of natural fibers in polymer composites. This study evaluated the influence of short fibers from Envira Cheirosa on the physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of polyester matrix composites. The composites were produced using the hand lay-up technique with different reinforcement mass fractions. Characterizations, conducted in accordance with ASTM standards, included apparent density, porosity, water absorption, tensile strength, and horizontal flammability. The results indicated improved dimensional stability, although tensile strength remained lower than that of the neat matrix, suggesting limited interfacial adhesion. Flammability performance was within regulatory limits. The findings confirm the feasibility of using short envira fibers as reinforcement in composites aimed at applications that require moderate mechanical performance and environmental responsibility. |
