Abstract Scope |
Recently developed nanocrystalline alloys present promising magnetic and mechanical properties for applications in medium frequency inductors and transformers and in high-speed electric motors. Proposed processing methods to attain low hysteresis losses include rapid annealing for grain refinement and imposing beneficial magnetic anisotropy by strain annealing of flat strip ribbons. This session will review these methods and include discussion of different power magnetics applications and the associated alloys and core manufacturing methods which provide tailored performance. While these methods are known to improve performance, there has been little discussion in the literature regarding the mechanical stress state of as-cast and strain annealed ribbons. These questions will also be examined in the context of industrial applications. |
