Abstract Scope |
SrTiO3 is a well-known photocatalyst capable of splitting water. There is evidence that the catalytic efficiency is sensitive to the composition, particularly for Sr-rich samples. The accommodation of excess Sr by point defects is limited. Instead, Sr-rich, planar Ruddlesden–Popper stacking faults appear and ultimately Sr2TiO4 appears as a second phase. In this work, we report the changes in both the microstructure and photocatalytic activity of planar ceramic SrTiO3 samples as a function of the Sr content. The results are discussed in the context of the planar defects and phase boundaries in these ceramics. |
