Abstract Scope In order to assist in the development of a new γ/γ′ Co-Ni-based superalloy, improved thermodynamics and diffusion descriptions are needed. The current NIST Co-based superalloy database for γ phase is based on the NIST Ni-based superalloy mobility database and diffusion couple results from the Co-Ni-Al-W system. To further improve the current mobility descriptions with the Cr and Ta addition, which are essential for resistance of oxidation, corrosion and wear, a diffusion couple stack was designed that included end members from the FCC regions of the Co-Ni-Cr-Ta system. The diffusion couple stack was annealed at 900 ºC, 1000 ºC and 1200 ºC and characterized and analyzed. This work will present the analyses of the measured diffusion couple profiles for the Co-Cr, Co-Ta, Ni-Cr, and Ni-Cr binaries and Co-Ni-Cr and Co-Ni-Ta ternaries, and the new descriptions will be compared with the current and published experimental results.
