| Abstract Scope |
The rapid advancement of high-end manufacturing sectors—such as electronics, superconductors, and additive manufacturing—has created new opportunities and higher performance requirements for refractory metals and alloy powders. Meanwhile, the growing emphasis on sustainable development is driving the extraction and alloying of rare metals toward environmentally friendly and short pathways. This study proposes a novel short-process route for the extraction and alloying of refractory metals. The thermodynamic evaluation and kinetics of metallothermic reduction reactions involving refractory metal compounds were interpreted at multiple scales, and correlations were established between multi-stage reduction mechanisms and the physicochemical properties of the resulting powders. Furthermore, the application of in-situ alloying technology addressed the longstanding challenge of controlling composition in refractory metal alloy, offering important theoretical insights for the integrated development of metallurgy and materials science. |
