The extreme thermal constraints involved in additive manufacturing (AM) lead to the development of hierarchical dislocation structures and residual stresses. Post-build heat treatments further alter these printing-induced features, which in turn, influence the anisotropic mechanical response of AM parts. This study introduces a self-consistent strategy, enabling the use of multiscale experimental characterizations to inherit such prior microstructural histories while initializing a strain gradient crystal plasticity framework. The constitutive model uses a multiplicative deformation gradient to account for the printing-induced residual stresses, a novel isotropic hardening formulation to consider the role of dislocation cells and precipitates, and a Taylor hardening-type backstress formulation to capture the kinematic hardening due to geometric incompatibilities. Such an experimentally informed approach, along with a Bayesian optimization algorithm for model calibration, allows for the use of a single set of parameters to predict the cyclic deformation behavior across as-built and heat-treated AM IN625 specimens. |
