| Abstract Scope |
The extremely high sensitivity of the SMA transformation temperatures to the alloy composition makes difficult the control of the final performances of the SMA components produced by Additive manufacturing (AM). To solve this challenging problem, a new methodology of microalloying the SMA powders at the melt-pool during AM using the techniques of Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Laser Metal Deposition (LMD), is presented. Starting from the atomization of the SMA powders, the AM processing is optimized through the production parameters and post-processing treatments. The microstructure is characterized along the different steps of the complete process and the functional properties of shape memory and superelasticity are tested to evaluate the final performances of the AM produced component. The presented methodology has been successfully applied to the production of Cu-Al-based SMA, but it could be applied to any other SMA family. |
