| Abstract Scope |
Thermo-mechanical simulation systems combine tensile or compressive loading with controlled heating and cooling to investigate material responses under well-defined environmental and mechanical conditions. Their precise control of temperature, atmosphere, and mechanical state enables a wide range of experiments beyond conventional deformation studies. In this work, we demonstrate the use of the sample chamber of a Gleeble 3800-GTC thermo-mechanical simulator as a platform for measuring physical material parameters. Specifically, we measured high-temperature emissivity and melting points of metallic samples under controlled thermal and atmospheric conditions. These measurements illustrate how existing thermo-mechanical simulation infrastructure can be adapted for quantitative thermophysical characterization, expanding the utility of the instrument beyond its traditional role in deformation processing and materials response studies.
