| Abstract Scope |
Revolutionizing the manufacturing industry, the metal additive manufacturing technologies have allowed for rapid development of complex geometric components minimizing time from design to development. Nevertheless, the considerable cost associated with the acquisition and maintenance of the more popular metal AM technologies, limits their wide-scale adoption. The low-cost material extrusion additive manufacturing (MEAM) technology has shown potential for development of metal parts, but the structural integrity of these parts under fatigue cyclic loading conditions remains limited. This study is novel in that it has assessed the fatigue performance of an MEAM Inconel superalloy, including evaluation of microstructural defects driving failure. Research findings will be used to assess the viability of the MEAM process in manufacturing fatigue sustainable structures as compared with existing manufacturing methods.
