Abstract Scope |
Precipitation hardenable aluminium and magnesium alloys are two important groups of engineering light alloys. Mechanical properties of these materials depend critically on their microstructures which are strongly influenced by alloying elements. With the help of high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) imaging and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS-STEM) techniques, it is now possible to detect the distribution of alloying elements at the atomic-scale. This presentation will show some of our recent results obtained from these techniques on atomic-scale characterization of precipitates and microstructures in selected aluminium and magnesium alloys. |
