Self-sensing materials have emerged as a promising solution for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). However, the literature still lacks studies on Stress and strain transfer mechanisms between cementitious sensors and concrete substrates, especially regarding the mechanical compatibility between the sensor and the bonding layer. To address this gap, this study employed finite element simulations to evaluate a cementitious sensor bonded to concrete bricks through an epoxy layer. Different combinations of elastic moduli for the sensor and adhesive were investigated to assess their influence on stress and strain transfer. The simulations provided stress and strain distributions in the sensor and epoxy, allowing evaluation of how stiffness ratios affect the strain in the sensing region and the expected piezoresistive response. The results provide new insights into elastic modulus compatibility, supporting the design of more reliable self-sensing structures and contributing to the development of intelligent infrastructure for future smart cities. |
