| Abstract Scope |
A variety of stoichiometric compositions based on scandium gallium zinc oxide (ScGaZnO4) were synthesized by solid-state reaction at 1300 °C in air, incorporating cation substitutions into the sites typically occupied by gallium and zinc. In this layered structure, Ga and Zn occupy crystallographic sites within layers of trigonal bipyramids, intercalated with layers of Sc in octahedral coordination. This work focuses on increasing the configurational entropy of the Ga/Zn sublattice by partially substituting Ga with Fe, Al, and Cr, and Zn with Ni, Mg, and Co. The phase stability of the resulting mixtures is discussed. Phase identification was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with elemental mapping via energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). These substituted compositions exhibit a tendency to form three phases, including spinel and C-type phases. |
