| Abstract Scope |
Waste heat is an abundant resource, and an increasing number of techniques are being investigated to valorize this waste heat into electricity. Conventional thermoelectrics based on the Seebeck effect are well established. More recent growth areas include ionic thermoelectrics (mainly based on the Soret effect) and thermoelectrochemical cells, or thermogalvanics (mainly based on entropy-driven redox reactions). Drawing on our recent research focused on thermogalvanic devices, this presentation will highlight the significant differences in mechanisms of operation, potential applications, and required characterization. |
