Abstract Scope |
This study compares the microstructure of two heat-treated (HT) MPEAs, FeCrNiMnAlₓ and FeCrNiCuAlₓ (x = 0.3, 0.8) processed by Spark Plasma Sintering followed by heat treatment (HT) (120 hours at 1100°C). Microstructures were characterized through XRD and TEM before and after HT. Alloys were subjected to 1MeV Kr irradiation in-situ in TEM up to 10dpa at room temperature and 300°C. Al addition promoted FCC-to-BCC phase transformation across all conditions. As-Processed (AP) alloys exhibited multiple phases, while the HT stabilized single-phase solid solutions with uniformly distributed coherent/semi-coherent precipitates. Previously, we reported that irradiation resulted in ordering/martensitic transformation in AP Mn-bearing alloys, and ordering (SS phase) and disordering (of previously ordered phases) in AP Cu-bearing alloys. In this present work, we report how HT versions of two alloys respond to the same irradiation conditions of AP ones. This work advances understanding of how microstructural tuning via HT influences irradiation tolerance in MPEAs. |
